Water companies deal with extensive pipe networks. Large diameter mains as well as smaller supply lines have to be monitored and flow surveys have to be carried out – with clamp-on flow meters all this can be done without interrupting the water supply.

Your situation
If a new water treatment plant, pumping station or section of pipelines is going to be built, inline flow meters such as electromagnetic ones can be the obvious choice.

However, on existing non-metered pipelines or on locations, where an existing inline meter has failed, a clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter such as the U-F-M KATflow 150 should be a simple choice.

Fixed installation flow meters
Our U-F-M B.V. KATflow flow meters have definite advantages in comparison to inline meters of any type when it comes to equipping existing lines with permanent meter devices:

As the ultrasonic sensors are installed by clamping them onto the outside of the pipe, there is no need to cut into the pipe and therefore no need to stop the flow. This means there is no interruption of the water supply or the disposal of waste-water and no risk of leakage.

The U-F-M B.V. KATflow clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters can be retrofitted to pipes of various materials and with diameters from 10 mm to over 6000 mm. This can be achieved without the need for costly changes in the specification of the instrument.

Furthermore, due to the ultrasonic measurement technique, calibrations for zero flow or specific pipe sizes are usually not necessary.

There is no requirement to cut into the pipe when fitting a U-F-M B.V. clamp-on flow meter. This means that there is no risk of conta-minating employees with hazardous contents of wastewater and no risk of leakage.

For large pipe diameters, the purchase cost for a U-F-M B.V. clamp-on flow meter is usually lower than the one for an inline solution.

Additionally, whereas the only expense you have with a clamp-on flow meter is the purchase cost, inline meters require further expenses for engineering work, down-time, trained staff and accessories such as bolts, seals and washers.

For these reasons a fixed-installation clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter like the U-F-M KATflow 150 is often the more cost effective solution when compared to inline meters.
